THE FIFTH GRADE decided not to exchange gifts for their Christmas party so they could, instead, help children in need. With donations of several congregational members and school families, along with a successful cookie sale they were able to raise over $250.00.
Working with Lutheran Child and Family Services, they have adopted a family from Iraq. Zainab, the mother, was the daughter of a diplomat. Issam, the father, was a sportscaster. Their U.S.A. sympathies meant that they had to flee Iraq as refugees to save their lives. They lost everything and now live in a modest apartment. Both parents have overwhelming health concerns. They have 5 children (ages 12, 9, 7, 6, and 5). It is exciting that we will actually be able to meet this family one day soon! We were certainly blessed to be a blessing to this family.
